Zero Day Exploit

Many of you have seen the news about a new “Zero Day Exploit” that specifically targets all versions of Microsoft Internet Explorer running Adobe Flash Player. Adobe has released a patch to fix the immediate vulnerability, you can download the latest version of flash player containing the patch from Adobe at www.adobe.com. Click on Download in the gray bar at the top, choose Adobe Flash Player from the drop down list and follow the prompts to install.

There are several things that you can do to help mitigate the risk. We recommend you forward these guidelines to your staff as well:

1. Avoid visiting any non-business critical websites;
2. Avoid clicking on any banner advertisements;
3. Avoid clicking on any website links or links that come to you in an email, especially those you have not explicitly requested;

Due to the discontinuation of support of Windows XP earlier in the month, Microsoft will be releasing a security update in the next few weeks that will only be available to those computers running Windows Vista, Windows 7 or Windows 8.

As we have stressed in the past, if you have Windows XP computers they should be replaced as no security updates will be released for Windows XP any longer.

If you have any questions, please call us at 712-776-2222.

The Heartbleed Bug

Just a heads up for our customers...
Heartbleed is a leak in that system that lets anyone read the memory of servers running OpenSSL. "This compromises the secret keys used to identify the service providers and to encrypt the traffic, the names and passwords of the users and the actual content," reads a statement from a Heartbleed website set up by Codenomicon to explain the bug. "This allows attackers to eavesdrop on communications, steal data directly from the services and users and to impersonate services and users."
To learn what Heartbleed Bug is OR other types of information on it, please click to read more!
