Setting up a dial up connection in Windows 2000

Click on Start, go to Settings and click on Network and Dial-up Connections.


Double click the Make New Connection icon.


Click Next to continue.


Select Dial-up to the Internet, then click Next.


Select the third option, I want to set up my Internet connection manually, then click Next.


Click Next.


Under Telephone number, type the local phone number given to you by Northwest Communications.

Please make sure that the number given to you by Northwest Communications is a local call for your area.

Remove the check in front of Use area code and dialing rules.

Click Next.


For User name, type in the first part of your email address without the @ncn.net

For Password, type in your password.

Click Next.


Under Connection name type in a name such as Northwest Communications, then click Next.


If you do not wish to set up an email program to use with your ncn.net email accout at this time, select No and click Next to finish.

If you would like to set up and email program at this time, leave the mark on Yes and click Next.


To create a new email accout, select Create a new Internet mail account, then click Next.


In the Display name field, type your name the way you would like people to see it when they receive email from you. For example: John Doe.

Click Next.


In the E-mail address field, enter your email address, For example: username@ncn.net

Click Next.


In the Incoming mail field, enter mail.ncn.net

In the Outgoing mail field, also enter mail.ncn.net

Click Next


The Account name field will automatically fill in with the correct account name. Click in to the Password field and type in your password.

Click Next


One more setting remains, click Finish to continue.


Click on Start, go to Programs, click on Outlook Express.


In Outlook Express, click on Tools, then click on Accounts.


Click on the Mail tab, then click on the Properties button.


Click on to the Servers tab.

At the bottom of the window, place a check mark in My server requires authentication field.

Click OK.


Click Close. This completes the basic setup - you should now be able to send and receive email in Outlook Express.
