The Vista Chamber Players formed in 1983 as the Cherokee Symphony String Quartet to play for a wedding in Cherokee. Since that time they have performed for many weddings, receptions and community functions throughout northwest Iowa and have traveled as far as Minneapolis, Minnesota to play.
The original members of the Quartet were the section leaders of the Cherokee Symphony and although several musicians have been members of this group over the years, cellist Lee Thorson has been the only continuous member since it's inception.
Vanessa Cook (violin) is manager of the DeKalb seed corn facility in Spencer, Iowa.
Joanne Tucker (violin) lives in Storm Lake, Iowa, and teaches music in the Storm Lake Community Schools.
Debra DeHann (viola) lives in Storm Lake, Iowa, and teaches music in the Storm Lake Community Schools.
Lee Thorson (cello) is a farmer at Rolfe, Iowa; adjunct faculty in music at both Buena Vista University in Storm Lake, Iowa, and Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa; conductor of the Cherokee Symphony; and a long time member of the Sioux City Symphony.
These musicians enjoy working together on an ever-expanding repertoire that is mainly classical but includes popular music as well.
Dates may be booked by sending mail to Lee Thorson or calling (712) 732-1497.
